Project Girl is bringing the DRAMA!  

Un-Mediafy Your Life!!!  Come experience this cool drama-based workshop for girls. Project Girl is hosting a special workshop to give girls the some great tools for leadership.

This Project Girl workshop gives you the opportunity to try your hand at the dramatic, hang out with other girls, make new friends and take what you’ve learned about leadership back to your friends at your school.

This Project Girl workshop will begin a process of girl-led activism! This is a new workshop being offered by Project Girl bringing you one of Madison’s leading women in Community Theater, Liz Foster-Shaner!

Cost:               $8 (scholarships are available)

Time:               3:30 – 5:30

Project Girl workshops give you the opportunity to create incredible artwork, hang out with other girls, make new friends and take what you’ve learned about media back to your friends at your school. Returning Project Girls welcome, NEW projects.

Project Girl workshops will begin a process of girl-led activism! Workshops are designed to help make you more aware of the harmful effects of media messages.  Together we will learn to critically examine our media-based culture and explore key media literacy issues affecting girls.  The workshops will explore the following topics:

1) basic media literacy concepts

2) stereotypes and labeling

3) body image and the beauty myth

4) consumerism

5) real girl power

6) sisterhood

Cost: $100 (scholarships are available)

Time: 2:45 – 4:45

Dates: Workshops will take place on the following Thursdays:

February 10 & 17  March 3 & 17  April 7 & 21  May 12

Location: Jefferson Middle School

Plus, the cool Project Girl artwork created by you will be part of a public art show and you will get to help create the second edition Project Girl magaZINE. Your artwork will help inspire other girls throughout Wisconsin and beyond!

On Thursday October 28 Project Girl went to La Crosse, Wisconsin to participate in Re-Claiming Girlhood Conference.

The Project Girl website has been up dated and is awesome! So go check it out! It links you directly to our You Tube page and our facebook page so subscribe and like us!  We also have a flickr account so you can see everything we are doing!

Project Girl is getting the word out and will be sharing more videos, more art, and more ideas to help you spread the word.

For those of you out there who want a chance to support Project Girl we have some new things you can get to support the girls.  The profits go straight into a scholarship fund for girls who need some extra support to participate in Project Girl Groups!

Come celebrate with us, October 22 (a Friday) from 6:30 -8:00 at the independently run bookstore A Room of One’s Own.  Art created with local Project Girls will be on display, our first Project Girl reading, and the launching of our Project Girl magaZINE! But before we can get started girls we need your help! Send us your poems, your stories, favorite recipes, photographs, art work, interviews, craft projects, book reviews, whatever! If you work with a Project Girl group maybe you want to share your groups’ experience.

This is open to all girls ages 8-18! Spread the word become part of the movement, help create spaces for girls to express and create. Support Leadership, Creativity, Confidence and Critical Thinking with girls. Strive to create and promote healthy images of girls and women in our media!

Applying is easy, just fill out the application and attach your image, or document. We want to include as many girls as we can, if you don’t make it in the first issue we will try to get you in the next!

Calling ALL Project Girls! This is for any middle school or high school age girl, weather you have been apart of Project Girl before or want to learn more. I’m excited to announce some new events, groups, and curriculum! While I know many of you are feeling the rush of getting back to school I wanted to invite you to some events and keep you informed of new Project Girl opportunities!

First off I’m so thrilled and excited to announce our next opening, October 22 (a Friday) from 6:30 -8:30 at the independently run bookstore A Room of One’s Own.  Art created this summer will be on display, but here is the best part you are invited to come (all of you) and take part in a reading and the launching of our ZINE!

There will be several free Project Girl events in the next few weeks. These will be held a few different public library locations in Madison.  At these events we will work on the ZINE and poetry for our exciting opening.  This is a great time to meet up with old friends, other projects girls, meet new girls and bring a friend to get them excited about Project Girl!

Project Girl comes to the Boys and Girls Club of Madison on Taft St.

Starting September 8 we will be meeting from 6-8 at the Boys and Girls Club on Taft St. “Project Girl, our nation’s first ever girl-led arts-and-awareness project designed specifically for and by middle school and high school girls.  Project Girl was created to empower girls to take action toward becoming more informed critical consumers of mass media advertising and entertainment.  Through Project Girl, girls learn to support each other, to widen their definition of who they are and what they really care about, and to become leaders in media reform.”

This group will meet every other week, creating artwork, creative writings, and developing a strong understanding of media literacy.

Anyone can learn jewelry making! Local bead store owner teaches the basics.

Learn the techniques of stringing, stitching and wirework while making
